Technical Communication Certificate

Launching in January 2027!

Technical communicators help people understand and use complex information. They work across industries and organizations to develop documentation, instructions, reports, and other materials that make technical knowledge accessible, accurate, and useful.

Ohio State's Technical Communication Undergraduate Certificate, offered through the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) and the Department of English, introduces students to the knowledge and practices of technical communication. The four-course program covers technical writing, project planning and analysis, content development and management, and the reviewing, editing, and testing of technical documents.

Throughout the certificate, students examine how generative AI is changing the production and management of technical information. They develop the disciplinary knowledge and critical judgment needed to use these technologies effectively, evaluate their outputs, and make informed decisions about communicating technical information to different audiences.

The certificate prepares students to contribute to technical communication projects and collaborate effectively with the teams responsible for developing and maintaining technical information.
