Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Why Research?

Research into writing and the teaching of writing has a long history. Such research has taken on even more importance in the first quarter of the twenty-first century, as more of us communicate via social media and other digital platforms. It is incumbent on colleges and universities to prepare their graduates, both at the undergraduate and graduate level, as producers and consumers of the words, images, and sound that define our professional, personal, and societal communication.

What does Research for the CSTW look like?

As part of CSTW’s mission, administrators and staff members support this need by conducting research into writing and the teaching of writing, using a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods. A listing of such work can be found here. Additionally, since January 2020, the CSTW has been the home of the Journal of Writing Analytics, edited by CSTW Director, Dr. Susan Lang.
