Spotlight: Zaina

1) Tell me about yourself…. What are you studying? What year are you?

I am an English major and graduating after 4 years.

2) What do you like about working at the Writing Center?

I love the community we have and the chance to work with people across campus and learn from them.

3) What is your favorite book?

It changes weekly! Currently, Red Rising by Pierce Brown.

4) If you are struggling with writing what you do you do?

I try to change where I'm working, get some coffee, and then reread my paper. Normally if I'm stuck, the problem is earlier. I just need to identify it and then continue.

5)What advice do you have for students?
Don't be afraid to stick to your own ideas and write in your own voice.

6) What's your favorite part of speech/grammatical concept (either to talk about in sessions, or in general)?
I have a love/hate relationship with adverbs.

7) What have you had the most fun writing?
I do a lot of creative writing, so working on a book with my sister has been not only a learning experience but a lot of fun.

8) What's your favorite assignment to work on with clients?
I don't think I have a favorite assignment, but in general I like talking to clients in the brainstorming stage and watching as they build their papers up. It's great seeing how different people spin different sources and ideas, and it's probably where I learn the most as a consultant.

9) What is one motto that you incorporate into your life or your writing?
I'm not sure. Maybe "there's always a better way to do things?"

10) Describe your perfect writing day
10) describe your perfect writing day
Early morning wake up. Go to Fox in the Snow because they have great iced coffee and no internet to distract you. Then go through some cool books for the sources you need and get to writing!
