Conversion

The most important thing to remember about the quarter-to-semester conversion is that the staff of the Minor in Professional Writing is available to help you. We will work diligently to ensure that the conversion does not disrupt your progress to completion of the minor.

The Minor in Professional Writing will continue to require that students take five courses:

  • any version of 2367, the second-level writing course
  • two electives from a portfolio of courses offered from throughout the university’s curriculum
  • the required core course, CSTW 4150, Cultures of Professional Writing
  • our capstone course, CSTW 4191, the Professional Writing Internship, which provides students with a hands-on and meaningful writing internship at a Columbus area business, nonprofit, government agency, or university workplace.

Coursework earned under the quarter schedule will remain active toward completion of the minor after the conversion to semesters. To earn the minor, you must take all five required courses during your undergraduate career; whether they were taken under the quarter or semester schedule is not significant. If you are interested in learning more about the university’s commitments to students during the conversion, read the Pledge to Undergraduate Students.

NOTE: Because we require that students take CSTW 4150 prior to their internship, CSTW 4191, we will offer both of these core courses during all three semester terms (first, second, and May+summer) to facilitate students’ ability to fit them into their course load.
