Minor in Professional Writing

Internship Sites

We can place a writing intern in your Columbus-area organization. A variety of local businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations have already hosted writing interns. See our list of partner organizations.

Candidates must complete coursework requirements for the Minor in Professional Writing and submit a portfolio of writing samples. If you are considering an intern, contact the internship coordinator and ask to review the writing samples of a candidate whose career interests match the work of your organization. If you accept an intern, your organization will gain a part-time worker (about 10-12 hours per week) with good writing skills. The Internship Contract outlines the responsibilities of both the organization and the intern.

Additional benefits to your organization include:
  • Our efforts to match you with an intern whose major or prospective field is related to your industry or mission.
  • Support and communication throughout the internship.
  • Enrollment of your intern in HUM COL 589, the internship class, where he or she will continue to learn about workplace writing and will share ideas and discuss issues related to work assignments.
To learn more about the program or request a professional writing intern, please contact Professor Trish Houston, Coordinator, by email at houston.61@osu.edu. You can also call Professor Houston at (614) 688-4652. Placement continues throughout each quarter year round.
