The Writing Center at CSTW exists to support writers in the OSU community -- undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff -- at any stage of the writing process. We believe the opportunity to talk one-on-one about the writing process can benefit all writers-from the least experienced to the most professional.
The Center is staffed by undergraduate and graduate tutors from various fields, serving writers in a range of disciplines. Tutors assist writers with larger structural and stylistic issues as well as fundamental grammatical concerns. The tutors work with writers at all stages of the writing process: brainstorming, organizing, composing a second draft, or adding finishing touches.
Because dialogue is an essential component of the writing process, the Center does not accept papers for proofreading. Instead, tutors address clients' concerns during tutorial sessions -- discussing, collaborating, and exchanging ideas to create the best piece of writing possible.
Ultimately, the Writing Center's goals are not limited to polishing any one single document or paper. Our mission is to create better writers -- writers who take what they have discovered during their tutorial session and apply it to future writing projects.
In addition to the main tutoring location at Mendenhall, the Writing Center accommodates students in the evening at our satellite location in the Science and Engineering Library. Students can also use the on-line scheduler to make appointments or access our on-line tutoring services.
