Third-Level Writing

Ohio State’s writing sequence often culminates for students in a course within their majors. Ohio State’s GEC model curriculum recommends that all majors in the University require an upper level course involving intensive writing instruction in the major. Many (but not all) majors do require a third course in writing, and departments offer upper-level courses in majors to help students acquire the advanced literacy skills they need in their field of study. For a list of third-level courses, see the first and second pages of the University-wide GEC list.

Third-level writing courses continue to develop in departments throughout the University, and recent curricular reviews have further stressed the importance of upper-level communication courses in all majors. WAC has worked with a number of departments to develop third-level writing courses in majors, and continue to collaborate with departments to assure that these courses continue to meet departmental goals and University guidelines.
