Introduction | Individual Consultations | Classroom Demonstrations | Group Workshops | WAC Brownbags
The WAC program regularly schedules several workshops each quarter on cutting edge issues in teaching writing across disciplines. We invite experts from a variety of fields to discuss their work in an open, relaxed, and diverse forum. Recent workshop topics have included community-based pedagogy, professional writing across the curriculum, international GTAs teaching writing, making writing instruction more accessible using technology, and surviving the end of the quarter as a writing TA.
Sample Brownbag:
Survivor, OSU: End of Quarter Tips for Writing Instructors: In this brownbag,
we offered suggestions for surviving, and thriving, in the end of quarter balancing
act between the classes GTAs teach and the classes they take. WAC consultants
led a discussion on innovative time-saving strategies for paper grading, suggestions
for balancing role as a teacher/student, tactics specific to both recitation and
course instructors, time and stress management tips, and guided relaxation exercises.
We were joined by graduate students from a number of disciplines, who contributed
their diverse perspectives in discussion.
“It was helpful to connect with other graduate students to talk about
teaching and time management. I’m going to try to re-organize my grading
process by separating student papers into piles as one of the consultants suggested.”
