Individual Consultations

A WAC consultant can meet with you individually to help you integrate writing and communication instruction into your class. Working together, we can help you develop specific assignments, activities, and strategies that meet your particular course goals. We are also available to advise course directors and administrators in redesigning existing courses or developing new courses.

Sample Individual Consultation:
Redesigning a Writing Assignment: A History instructor contacted a WAC Consultant to help her develop two paper prompts. From the first meeting, the consultant learned about the instructor’s teaching philosophy, the course. The instructor’s goal was to design writing assignments that would get the students engaged in their course readings and subsequently to encourage them to develop more daring and innovative thesis statements. After the initial consult and frequent email exchanges, the instructor designed a writing assignment that asks students to think about the authors of primary sources would respond to the ideas in secondary sources. For instance, instead of asking students to discuss how modern evolutionists might respond to Darwin, this assignment asks students to consider how Darwin might respond to the current debate over evolution in high school curriculum.
