Writing with Audio Documentaries

View Flyer [PDF]

After evaluating several "youth documentaries, teachers will be given time to develop writingintensive research units that result in student-produced audio micro-documentaries. In these units, students can be asked to prepare all or some of the following: research reports, interview planning materials, scripts, post-interview follow-up questions, "Thank You" letters, final reports, and reflective writing on the documentary process. During the planning period, teachers will adapt writing activities for their own discipline and class content. An audio workshop will follow where we record (simulated interviews), download, and edit digital audio using free audio editing software (Audacity) and inexpensive audio voice recorders.

Teachers will leave with a digital audio recorder containing modified materials, and free software. If time permits, we will spend time integrating audio files into MS Word and PowerPoint.
