The summer 2007 CSTW Outreach Consultant works with 6 to 20 adult beginning writers and/or non-native or English as a Second Language students onsite at the Godman Guild/OSU Extension Battelle Learning Center. Consultant facilitates a total of six workshops during the ten week quarter as part of the Godman Guild’s GED program. Maintains communications with CSTW director, assistant director, and Godman Guild staff; conducts evaluations; and prepares the end of the quarter report.
Qualifications: Graduate student: experience with community institutions is preferred. Experience in tutoring, teaching writing, or community outreach is desirable. Skills in grant writing, professional writing, and workshop development are highly desirable. Strong administrative skills are highly desirable.
Peer Writing Consultant Director
Manages all aspects of the undergraduate peer tutoring program, co-sponsored by the Department of English's Writing Workshop and the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW). Coordinates schedules, supervises writing consultants, conducts observations of tutoring sessions, and maintains program records. Serves as liaison among English 110.03 students, 110.03 instructors, English 467 students/tutors, and 467 instructors. Serves as a resource for undergraduate tutors and assists with English 467. In addition, may work with undergraduate tutors in the Writing Center. Also, serves as liaison between the Writing Workshop and the Writing Center for the Success Challenge Program.
Qualifications: At least one year teaching English 110 and/or Completion of English 881.02. Writing tutor experience strongly recommended. Familiarity with the Department of English's Writing Workshop and CSTW's Writing Center desired.

Writing Camp Instructor
Job Description: The Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) seeks a Summer Writing Camp Instructor to teach a one week course on writing using digital technology to create short multimedia pieces on issues such as education, poverty, housing, social justice, and voting and how racial and ethnic barriers contribute to these issues in their home communities. The instructor will develop creative and effective ways to teach critical writing, research, analysis, and interviewing techniques. The instructor will collaborate with The WOSU Stations who will provide training on audio broadcasting and news story writing and the CSTW digital media specialist who will assist students with web writing, development, and design. Two teaching assistants will provide classroom support in incorporating the digital component into the curriculum activities. The instructor will develop course curriculum, select instructional materials, track student progress, evaluate students, and provide inputs for the final report.
Salary: $2,000
Time Commitment:
- 90 minutes each for four (4) planning meetings
- 25 hrs (5 hrs per day of classroom instruction for 5 days)
- 3 hrs closing ceremony for 1 day
Qualifications: Experienced teacher of writing, demonstrable ability of working with inner city high school students. Experience with digital media, Web site design, critical and analytical writing, and multimedia projects preferred. Strong administrative skills are also highly desirable
Writing Camp Teaching Assistant
(Two Positions Available)
Job Description: The Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) seeks Summer Writing Camp Teaching Assistants to work in partnership with the summer writing camp instructor and program coordinator on campus. Advise (as needed) working groups of high school students (juniors and seniors) for one week on writing using technology to create short multimedia pieces about social and community life such as the causes of and solutions to racial and ethnic barriers. Specifically perform literacy tutoring, and assist students with classroom assignments and facilitating small group presentations. Supervise and chaperon students daily. Assist CSTW digital media specialist, The WOSU Stations technology advisor with classroom and camp tour activities. Provide inputs for tracking student progress and the final report.
Salary: $1,000
Time Commitment:
- 90 minute each for two (2) planning meetings
- 30 hrs (6 hrs per day of classroom assistance/student chaperoning for 5 days)
- 3 hrs closing ceremony for 1 day
Qualifications: Must be a good writer and have experience working with teenage high school students on their writing. Experience teaching or tutoring writing at the college level is a plus. Able to help students use writing as a tool for learning and for communicating. We seek talented, self-motivated individuals who can provide leadership and instructor support in a classroom setting.
