This Week in WAC, February 6th

This week... I'd like to begin with a fantastic quote I found on CUNY's WAC page: "WAC's promise: to teach our students what they can do with words--and to teach them, as well, what words can do." (Judith Summerfield, University Dean of Undergraduate Education, CUNY) Well said, Dean Summerfield! Currently, I'm making my final preparations for our second workshop for Columbus Public School teachers. The group we worked with in December was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the workshop Wednesday. I'll post a summary later this week--I hope, as well, that the participants take the opportunity to post their thoughts about the workshops. The last group seemed really interested in a forum like this. On Thursday, the WAC team will be meeting with Nancy Pine, a former coordinator of WAC who is working on her dissertation on service learning in WAC. I'm hoping I can convince her to post on the subject--especially in light of our upcoming workshop on Community-Based Pedagogy.
